Grant Awarded for Digital Archival Project

The museum has received significant grant funding to digitize and preserve rare Mithila artworks for global access.

For Immediate Release

The Mithila Museum Initiative has been awarded a major grant to support its Digital Mithila Archive project — a comprehensive effort to digitize, describe, and make publicly accessible rare Mithila artworks from collections across India and Nepal.

The grant will fund high-resolution scanning equipment, a dedicated archival database, and a team of researchers and metadata specialists over a three-year period.

“Digital access is essential to the future of any cultural institution,” said Research Director Dr. Sanjay Thakur. “This grant will allow us to build infrastructure that serves researchers, artists, and communities for decades to come.”

The archive is expected to launch in its initial phase within 18 months, with open access to scholars, institutions, and the general public.
